As an electrician, it’s always amazing at how many homes are still using old style fuse boxes. These old fuse boxes have non trip fuses which don’t trip as fast as the newer style. The way to tell if you’ve got an old style fuse box, is the fuses will look like domino blocks, because of the white dots on them. Newer fuses won’t display the same dots.

If you need an alteration or addition to your fuse box, and you have an old style fuse box, you’ll be out of luck unfortunately. You’ll first need to have your fuse box updated to comply with modern standards.

For years since we bought this home we have been having problems with the furnace here. It would shut off too soon, stay on too long, or sometimes not turn on at all. Finally, this winter, it gave up the ghost and stopped working altogether. With temperatures dropping, it started to get pretty darn cold in our home very quickly.
